Expert from Portland tests ores at Salmon Mountain Mine

Expert mining man from Portland visited Salmon Mountain Mine last week with testing apparatus. He tested ores on Tuesday and Wednesday, reporting high test results and good ore in sight to support 60 tons per day for ten years with strong dividends. The visit follows Orvil Dodge’s earlier trip to Portland and involves installation of reduction works paid from mine products.

Inspection halts fungus infected California peaches

Fruit Inspector Hall-Lewis visited the county seat last Saturday to examine a shipment received by a local commission house. He found twenty boxes of California peaches infected with fungus and worms and seized and destroyed them, issuing a certificate allowing the consignee credit for the full amount.

Brown rot fungus threatens peaches and plums in moist climates

Mr. Lewis warned orchardists that the brown rot fungus rapidly spreads in moist weather, rotting peaches and plums before ripening. He noted consignments from a San Francisco firm appeared warehouse-worn, shrunken, dirty, with gum exudations and rotted pits unfit for use.

Death of Finley Hartley in Coos County Oregon

Finley Hartley died October 17 1911 near Eckley after a two year struggle with consumption. Born August 12 1872 in Watauga NC he moved with family to Oregon and Washington before settling in Coos County. Survived by wife Eva Phillips three children his parents six brothers and two sisters. Funeral at 3 PM Wednesday with Rev C H Barklow. Interment Neal Cemetery Roland Prairie. He was 39 years old.
