Christian Church notes show growth in attendance

Tomato King Peter Axe Runs Vast Coos County Cannery

Peter Axe of Bridge near Coos County farms on Big Creek road and yields vast tomato crops. He reportedly produced 2000 boxes per acre with irrigation and a cannery for canning. A later measurement found the patch about half an acre, adjusting the claimed output.

Gold Beach Globe reports the Brookings enterprise with a coast’s largest mill after Smith mill at Marshfield. A three mile standard gauge railroad up the Chetco river serves the timber edge while fifty cottages for workers rise. Six weeks to finish, observers expect longer.

The Coos County Society of Southern California met Sunday November 2 in Santa Monica near Los Angeles. Members traveled up to eighty miles by auto to attend.
