What Became of Parker? Benefit Play Heads to Unique Theatre

Ban don and Myrtle Point clubs collaborate for a benefit show to aid local commercial organizations. The play What Became of Parker? features Dorathy Gibson and P H Poole with a strong cast and packs the Unique Theatre on a Saturday night. Proceeds go to the Myrtle Point club treasury, with fifty cents admission and strong local booster support.

Schmidt-Dean wedding at Detlefsen home near Norway

Mr Martin Schmidt and Mrs Marie Dean were married at noon yesterday in the Detlefsen residence near Norway with Rev Thomas Barklow officiating. The ceremony featured unique evergreen decorations and a blue satin bride dress. A five course dinner followed and the couple left at 4 PM for a short wedding trip.

Dies After Short Illness J L Thompson Portrait of a Local Citizen

J L Thompson, a well to do and respected resident, died last Thursday morning after about two weeks of illness from a hemorrhage and pressure on the brain. His first attack occurred while duck hunting, with a ringing in his head that rapidly worsened. Dr J D Wetmore of Portland arrived but could not save him.

St Patrick Masquerade Ball Aids Myrtle Point Bears

A lively St Patrick masquerade at Dreamland dance hall raised funds for the Myrtle Point Bears. Prizes went to Evalyn Butler for best sustained lady’s Irish domestic, R T Leonard for best gent’s masque, Josephine Hayes for most comical woman, and Homer Hermann as comical gent Mutt.

City Council Names Election Board and Notes Public Works

The city council appointed and the mayor confirmed election judges Z T Johnson E O Carter and J L Laird and clerks W F Hendricks H A Guerin and J L Lewellen. Bids for cement sidewalk on the south public square were awarded to Coos Bay Paving and Construction Co. Adjournment set to Tuesday to consider ordinances on walk construction and First and Spruce paving. A speed ordinance for automobiles was discussed and referred to the ordinance committee. A 10 cent St Patrick’s Day social at Lundy’s Hall hosted by the M E church Ladies Aid drew a large crowd and is planned as a monthly event.

Coos County Plans Hospital At Poor Farm Site

The Coos County commissioners decide to own and operate a hospital, building at the poor farm near Coquille for about 2000 dollars this year. Current Grayce hospital contract costs about 400 dollars monthly. The new facility will be modest but include essential conveniences.

The largest Myrtle Point caucus on March 15 elected four top council candidates with votes for Lidopd Spires 38, J S Whitaker 67, J W Barklow 59, C C Carter 39 and C Adams 26. Recorder nominees A H Bender and E A Dodge. Treasurer nominees J M Arrington and W E Lewellen. Mayor nominees P L Phelan and L A Roberts.

A North Dakota paper tale reported by a reader of a married woman kneading bread with gloves on. The item sparked furor as the editor of the paper supposedly laments subscriber arrears with coarse humor hinting at poverty and scandal.

Eighty Elk in Curry County Reported by Deputy Baker

E J Baker district deputy game warden for Coos and Curry counties arrived in the city after a trip from Curry, via Sixes and Eckley, to appoint deputies as elk census shows about eighty elk in Curry forests. He plans to map elk herds in Coos county by year end and visit Bay Side points before returning home. Sidewalk Contract Awarded For public square work

E F Morrisey and S C Small, from Marshfield, came Monday to prepare to resume work when weather allows. They already placed sub grade at Spruce and First and have materials ready. The council awarded the cement walk project on the south side of the square. work started removing old walk and digging. B F Harvey of Portland, an entomology bureau employee with the Department of Agriculture, is visiting the Myrtle Point area this week.
