The Oregon Attorney General completed ballot titles for six measures to be voted on June 4. Objections may be filed within five days, then appeal to the Marion County Circuit Court.
Myrtle Point Chautauqua dates are July 16 through July 20 with six afternoons and evenings of programming. The Ellison-White Chautauquas group has booked acts including Lolito’s Royal Venetian Band and the Wassers Co. plus lectures by Sir Douglas Mawson and Dr. G Whitfield Ray.
The High School Chorus and specialties perform next Monday at 8:00 pm at the Unique Theatre. The program includes live choruses instrumental selections and variety numbers by 75 choir members to raise funds for the music department library. Admission is 25 and 15 cents.
City caucus will be held at City Hall Myrtle Point at 7 30 p m Saturday March 17 1917 to nominate candidates for city officers to be voted on at the general city election on the first Monday in April E A Dodge City Recorder.
Myrtle Point Commercial Club held a tense meeting after dinner to consider F E Conway Marshfield’s condensary proposal. Dairymen, citing existing factory arrangements, rejected the idea, with only one favorable voice.
E A Dodge came back Tuesday from a business trip to Portland and other Willamette Valley points.
Marshfield defeated Myrtle Point 21 to 16 at Oaks Pavilion to stay tied with Bandon for the Coos County championship. Marshfield’s Chapman Waters Musson Vasey and Glossop led the attack, while Myrtle Point relied on Panter Schreifer Johnson and Schriefer for scoring in a low scoring affair. The tied title will be decided in Coquille tomorrow night.
William Strang was killed instantly when a log rolled at a logging camp near Powers. Will Strang, a native of Coos Bay born January 2, 1889, is survived by half brother Jesse Hatcher. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Brethren with burial at Norway Cemetery.
In the Myrtle Point Local of the Farmers Educational and Co operative Union of America the Ray led side won 18 candidate memberships. E Arneson led the losers with 3 applications. The winners will host a fortification and banquet with the losers supplying feed and visiting attendees.
The Enterprise received letters from Teddy Roy of Pilot Rock Oregon claiming an 1800 silver dollar and other early pieces. He notes the coin reads One Hundred Cents and is well preserved. A second coin shown by Fin Mast resembles early date half dollars and has long family provenance.
Mrs. A Houge reported to possess a handbag containing seven Chinese copper coins including one claimed to date from the twelfth century. The coins were found in an earthen jar three feet underground during school construction by a society Mrs. Houge served.
Gen F Burr acquires the cabinet from Roy Worley with Gaither Harrison and H B Steward trading stakes. Steward gains Club Billiard Hall ownership and Harrison acquires land on the South Fork. Hercules Powder Co nets 227 percent earnings to dividends. Du Pont common stock returns 133 percent. Hercules plans to test a new federal tax rule imposing 8.5 percent above 8 percent profits, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
At their Sunday meeting the Powers lodge of the Loyal Order of Moose voted to buy two city lots to erect a lodge hall, with construction to begin soon and an estimated cost around 2500 dollars. The lodge also elected officers led by Past Dictator W C Drake and Dictator P T Durham. In Marshfield Oregon J W Riggs a pioneer photographer of Coos Bay died, and Mrs James Forty another pioneer of the Coos Bay area passed away.
Coos County Good Roads Association calls members to a Marshfield Armory banquet on March 16 with E J Adams and J A Westerlund among speakers. Gore from Medford and other state leaders will discuss highway projects and a $6,000,000 bond issue. Tickets required. reservations via Mel Duncan.
Andrew Christensen traveled to Marshfield this week to handle business for the cheese factory urged by the Coos Bay dairy men. He was accompanied by Claud H. Giles, attorney and sales representative for the Coos & Curry Cheese association.
