Coquille valley merchants urge Portland Freight relief via Portland Coos Bay routes. They cite $3 to $5 per ton rates from Portland to Coos Bay area and argue for direct Portland trips to bypass Marshfield delays and Southern Pacific tolls. The circular proposes securing a small steamer run by Geo Fritch of San Francisco to handle shipments directly to Portland.
