Close Games at Bandon

Crowds flocked for a two game baseball doubleheader at Bandon after a wet morning. Coquille beat Bandon 3 to 2 in a long opening game, then Bandon edged Coquille 6 to 5 in extra innings as a misplayed ball and umpire call stirred protests. Next Sunday the teams meet again at home with a big crowd expected.

City council discusses Spruce street improvement and sewer plan

A notice states the council contemplates Spruce street improvements. A Willow street sewer petition is referred to a committee with engineer input and a next meeting report. A Marshfield race meet invitation is acknowledged and Myrtle Point invites extended. The marshal will repair holes, fix sidewalks, and cut grass before the 4th of July.

Fourth of July plans include parade and Liberty Car

The Fourth of July committee met to finalize details. Rev. F E Scofield will speak and Cal King will read the Declaration of Independence. A grand parade with floats automobiles and forty eight horsemen representing each state is planned along Ash street Spruce Railroad avenue Maple First and Dixon grove. Thirteen little girls will represent the original states on the Liberty Car.

Willamette Pacific Railroad eying Eugene to Eureka coastal link

The Oregon filing at Salem on June 18 reveals plans for the Willamette Pacific Railroad to extend from Eugene along the coast to Eureka California, connecting with Southern Pacific lines and creating a three route through network between Oregon and California with Eugene as a hub. The route would run from Eugene to Marshfield then toward Coos Bay and down the coast to California, with 237 miles between Eugene and Eureka. Surveys have been ongoing, and officials are expected to announce the project soon through the Eugene Guard.
