Taft Named President by First Ballot at Chicago Convention

The Marshfield Times reports wire service confirmation that William H. Taft secured the Republican presidential nomination on the first ballot at the Chicago convention. Local editor Maloney supplied the tip from the field.

Davis-Schultz Co. Changes Name to Western Oregon Co

At a May 4 1908 special meeting in North Bend Oregon the Davis-Schultz Co. voted unanimously to change its corporate name to Western Oregon Company Wholesale Grocers effective June 1 1908. Supplementary articles filed with the Secretary of State follow the law. Signed P Evans secretary. The ad note mentions a jeweler selling timepieces cheaply.

Death of Another Norway Pioneer

Mrs. Sarah Evans Haughton of Coos county died at her daughter’s North Bend home at 2:20 P M from Bright’s disease and dropsy. Born in England 64 years ago she married Harry Haughton and emigrated to Quebec before settling in Norway Oregon. Survived by three children Charles Haughton Myrtle Point Frances Elizabeth Buckingham Portland and Mrs Henry I Reese North Bend. Funeral at the Reese home tonight 7 30 Rev Burkhart officiating remains to Norway for interment beside her husband ship for interment tomorrow afternoon Rev Barklow officiating.
