Verdict Returns Against Port of Coquille River

The Myrtle Point Transportation Company was awarded $1750 damages and costs after a four day circuit court trial in Coquille. The case claimed $2620 in damages for slashing that washed into the Coquille River on October 7 1913 and fouled the Myrtle Point Mill boom, hindering boats. The port defense argued the mill boom intruded into the stream and the boats were in danger. a motion for a new trial is expected.

South Fork Ten Defeats Local Pick Up Team 14 to 9

In a Sunday practice game at the local diamond the South Fork Ten beat a town pick up squad 14 to 9. The S F team, nicknamed cowsappers by some, showed a disciplined routine despite friendly ribbing. Earlier that afternoon Norway’s Ideal team beat Coccille 16 to 13.

Tuberculin Testing Required for Public Stock Sales

State Veterinarian H Lytle outlines that all cattle sold at public auctions must be tuberculin tested and proven TB-free under Section 31 of the Live Stock Sanitary Laws. Tests can be arranged with Dr. J L Masson of Myrtle Point after delivery. tests take about a day. The Farmers' Exchange Sales Day committee fixes a 3 percent selling fee to fund expenses and invites listings by June 23 for the June 30 sale.

Eighth grade diploma results announced for county June exams

Superintendent Raymond E. Baker lists 117 diplomas issued from 174 applicants with 34 in one or two subjects and 23 failures. Physiology and geography exams drew 346 sixth and seventh graders. 22 rural schools reported passing pupils. Named graduates from multiple districts include Virginia Clark, Emma Anthony, Mary R. In Coquille, the Myrtle Point Bridge team from the Christian Sunday schools beat Coquille 4 to 2 after a tight game tied through seven innings. The Myrtle Point Bridge lineup included Phelps, Huff, Miller, Walker, Nosler, Snyder, Stewart, Chabo, and Arnold, while Coquille started Leslie, Shelley, Norton, Stower, Kernef, Pike, Monger, Stanley, and Bither.

Early last Thursday the Roseburg mail reached in time to connect with Co. B., R. & E. train No. 38, delaying about 45 minutes. If June rains do not mud up the roads again, the train schedule should hold through the summer.

Dairymen Institutes Planned for Coos and Curry Counties

County dairymen of Coos and Curry are to host a series of Dairymen and Farmers Institutes under the Extension Division of Oregon Agricultural College. Professors Fitts and Barr from Corvallis are expected to lecture on farm subjects and stock judging. Meetings run June 23 to 26 at Selander ranch Sumner, Lundy ranch Catching Creek, Watson ranch Coquille, and Star ranch Langlois with families urged to attend as a community picnic.

Late Blight of Potato Says Oregon Agricultural Expert

J S Whitaker reports potato patches in Myrtle Point showing late blight signs. F D Bailey confirms the diagnosis and urges Bordeaux mixture sprays, noting early blight risk with wet weather.
