Myrtle Point committees outline a two day celebration with a July 3 ball game, band, races, and a July 4 parade and fireworks. Tom T. Bennett will speak, prizes reward best parade floats and teams, and the event aims to draw audiences from Coos and Curry counties for races, tug of war, log sawing, and foot races with worthwhile purses.

To Be Taken to Asylum
Fred Warren 70 living near the Libby coal bunkers was detained by Constable Cox and brought before Judge Hall and a medical examiner who found him mentally unbalanced. An information filed by R O Graves alleging Warren’s many cats and threats to neighbors led to his removal to the state insane asylum in a few days. He receives a government pension as a veteran, but funds were reportedly spent on cats. Warren has no known relatives locally.

James Vester Leep aged 56 years 1 month and 30 days died at his home after several years illness. Born Wert county West Virginia April 6 1858. Funeral services were held at the Seventh Day Adventists church at 2:00 PM Saturday June 6 conducted by Elder F G Bunch.

Fire Devastates Bandon District With Debris Fire
Early reports claimed wide destruction in Bandon but authentic details show only a block on both sides of the street burned. The Eldorado saloon building started the blaze around 2:00 this morning. Gallier hotel was not in the burned zone and Hub store fared only mildly. Auto parties formed to help, but travel halted since fire was under control.

Farmer avoids deer attack during milking by aiming high
A Smith River farmer faced a five point buck that leaped the fence and butt the cows, upsetting the milking. The farmer chased the animal with a .32 gun but chose not to shoot, raising the sights to overshoot the deer instead. The incident ended with the deer gone and milking resumed.

Logging road ballast work starts on Hermann place
C B and E Ballisting The Smith Powers Company began ballasting between this place and the gravel pit on the Hermann place. They turned over trainloads of gravel to the Southern Pacific for use on the Coos Bay Roseburg and Eastern line to Marshfield. About seventy five to one hundred cars pass Myrtle Point daily. A Tuesday evening passenger was delayed after gravel cars blocked the track near Marshfield. Once finished the roadbed work may lead to a motor car service between here and North Bend.

Cougar Bunting On The South Fork
Mr J C Warner of the South Fork of Coquille River in Coos county reports strong cougar hunting recently. While checking cattle he found a deer carcass and released his dogs, which treed a large female eight feet nine inches and three yearlings, then later a fifth panther eight feet, after which it had killed three deer.

State union officers to visit Coos county events
