At a recent Mem bers' Council session the Portland Chamber of Commerce urged full application of the Bingham bill granting a five percent preference for Oregon made goods for municipal county or state use. The Portland charter requires buying from the lowest bidder regardless of origin, delaying compliance until charter change by voters.

Fire destroys pulp mill chip house in Coos Bay

In Coos Bay on Saturday the C A Smith pulp mill chip room adjacent to the lumber mill burned rapidly from about 3 to 3 15 pm. The concrete buildings nearby were scorched but the main mill was not damaged. Estimated loss runs 12000 to 15000 dollars with blanket insurance.
