Farmers in Coos County praise two weeks of favorable weather with thriving corn pumpkins squashes melons and potatoes crowding their hills. Myrtle Point crops are well ahead of recent years, hay and grain up, prices expected to rise due to California and eastern shortfalls, and late spring grains near record levels.
A new mercantile concern named Myrtle Point Merchandise Company has been incorporated by W. E. Pike James Arrington and B. C. Shull. It will absorb W. E. Pike & Co and takes a lease on the Lundy building at Sixth and Spruce, room now used by Hub Clothing & Shoe Co. Hub moves to Seaman block in a few days. Barklow buys Myrtle Point Grocery from Cooley & Farleigh and plans moving stock to Seaman block. Farleighs and Cooleys plan next steps. Rev C H Bryan to preach in Coquille and at Myrtle Point M E church.
A Chinaman named Lui Sing, once a cook at Guerin hotel, died by suicide after a money order mix up revealed he had planned to swindle his cousin. Ostracised by his own community for the deception, he was embittered by isolation in a foreign land.
James Mortimer Norton Richmond of Catching Creek died at his home July 25 1913 at 4 20 pm aged 83 years 11 months 10 days He served in the Indian wars of California and in the Union army in the Civil War He belonged to the G A R post at Myrtle Point until withdrawing over church rules He was esteemed in town and attended church during health issues The deceased leaves relatives and friends The funeral was held Sunday at 2 pm at the U B church Catching Creek conducted by Rev Thos Barklow Interment was in the local cemetery
The Ladies of the M. E. church host a social at Lundys hall next Saturday evening starting at 8 oclock. Refreshments including pie and coffee cost 10 cents. A gypsy will tell fortunes in a tent and games will be played for a general good time.
Plans are formulating for a Pacific Coast Roads Association conference in Eureka California August 20 21 to organize the group for promoting good roads in California Oregon Washington Governors Lister West and Johnson are to attend with many other advocates. Delegates will travel by steamer from San Francisco or Port Mad or by automobile from the north or east, with routes via Grants Pass and the Coast Range to Eureka. Governor West will speak on the commercial value of good roads during the Eureka meeting.
State Forester F A Elliot says more than 600 men will patrol Oregon forests this season with 60 patrolmen paid by the federal government. The state has 27 wardens and patrol men, while forest reassociations and timber owners will employ the rest. No major fires yet, but conditions shift with a drying spell.
Notice to water patrons states that until further notice city water use for sprinkling lawns and streets is forbidden and any wasteful practices will not be tolerated.

Dodge as treasurer Orvil Dodge as secretary and manager Mrs H S Bledsoe and Percy Peel as vice presidents Plans were discussed on future operations and accepting or rejecting proposals to sell property Several parties are becoming interested in the company properties as development progresses Evil Dodge traveled to the mines with a visitor to view the rich gold silver and copper resources with platinum on the side
Both teams played very good game as North Bend’s Bears and Myrtle Point’s Clams battled in a tight Sunday matchup. Miley pitched well for Bandon and Clark drove in a pair for the Bears, while Poland and J McDonald led Myrtle Point with solid hits and fielding.
Negotiations underway for F A Turner of Copalis Washington to take over Myrtle Point Canning Company for five years pending stockholder approval. Turner, an experienced cannery man, seeks to operate here and lease Marshfield cannery, aiming to supply 10000 cans of Coos Bay oysters for San Francisco trade. stockholders meet August 16.
A donkey being moved from East Fork mill to the city broke through a span of the Dora bridge approach last week. No injuries occurred, but the structure suffered substantial damage and required repairs.
