Oil prospect meeting in Myrtle Point forms to study local oil field
An informal gathering of Myrtle Point residents and nearby neighbors met at the Myrtle Mill office to consider organizing a company to prospect for oil in the area and along the Coquille river tributaries. George Kern, a visitor from Colorado and Kansas, announced believed evidence and urged leases and capital. P. L. Phelan was elected chairman and Orvil Dodge secretary. A committee was appointed to seek leases as the group adjourned.

John W. Sears known as Uncle Jack died at his Myrtle Point home Tuesday at 5 45 am after a months long jaundice illness. Funeral at the German Baptist church followed by interment in Myrtle Point cemetery. Executor Z T Johnson named. will leaves estate to sister’s stepdaughter Wil. Sears born 1834 in Ohio. married Catherine Williams. lived in Astoria Crescent City Ellensburg and Coos County before settling in Myrtle Point. Survived by three sisters and a brother in Iowa and Oklahoma.

Quiet wedding in Herald building joins Ray Dean and Jennie Lindebeck
A Coos county couple wed in the Herald building living department with Rev J N McConnell officiating. Ray Dean and Miss Jennie Lindebeck are local natives and well liked by friends hoping for their happiness. Len Hartley, Dora road contractor, was brought to town for jaw injury after a stick damaged him while pressing down a cable during stump pulling. The injury included a broken jaw and the loss of three teeth. A publisher of the Enter prise and his wife visited the McKinley summer home of County Superintendent W H Bunch this week, enjoying hospitality and noting his scenic forests and woods surrounding his residence.

Hickory nut and birch trees and other eastern varieties are noted along with a near failure of the cherry crop but a surge of other fruits. Mr. Bunch owns fine homestead and timber lands likely to fetch a good price. Len Hartley works on a large contract near Dora improving roads to town once a new road past the Cooper bridge is finished. Deer hunting yields prizes though one hunter allegedly harmed a poor blind buck. Fishing in the region remains excellent.
