J. J. Kirby, described as temporarily demented, spent most of the 4th unclad in Brewster canyon and is now jailed in Roseburg after a delirium tremens episode. He is deemed likely to regain balance within days and was brought to the city Tuesday night by Walter Laird Jr of Brewster Roseburg Review.

Mrs Wade of Bandon, aged 106, is perhaps Oregon's oldest resident now living with her son Walter Laird in Parkersburg. S C Bartrum writes in the Roseburg Review that an excellent pass over the Cascades could carry a railroad from Deschutes river to the Umpqua valley on a much lower grade than one percent. He challenges the view of locals that the route is impassable, claiming the rough country requires no unusual cost or difficulty for construction and notes rich resource areas in the region.

Sea Otter and Sea Lions Return from Curry County Hunt
Captain John Swing and George Forty return with the Ranger after a two month sea lion hunt off Port Orford and Rogue River reefs. They landed forty sea lions and one sea otter valued at 300 to 500 dollars for its fur. The otter was six feet long with black fur tipped gray and floated when shot. Sea lion hides average about 6.50 each and will be shipped from Coos Bay to San Francisco for sale.

A group of twenty Tillamook dairymen with a combined capital of 400000 plan to move to the Coquille valley drawn by better industry conditions. Deputy state food and dairy inspector W. E. Catterlin is moving with the group and has leased the Star ranch in Curry county for ten years. The move is seen as boosting local farming and regional prosperity.
