Binger Hermann gave an Independence Day address. later baseball match Powers defeated Coquille Valley with a 2:30 game and a street program ending with songs and a Moose-led parade finale.

Forest Grove Ore June 30 The Volunteers association held its 16th annual reunion at Marsh hall with J E Henkle chair and many members listed. Officers elected include W M Hilleary commander John W Cullen senior vice commander Cyrus Walker adjutant George Harding quartermaster. A boxing match Lennon v Conner did not occur. Hap Kelen drew with Conner in a six round bout.

Auto Crashes Injure Family Members In Two Sunday Accidents
Two separate wrecks occurred last Sunday afternoon. Al Baker and his son were returning from a country drive when their car was struck by the Murphy truck driven by Walter Billing at Railroad Ave and Maryland street. the Baker boy suffered facial and head wounds after being thrown through the windshield. In a second collision near Camas Valley N M Kirkendall, Lloyd Kirkendall, and Roy Cameron witnessed a fatal horse death and several injuries when a halted auto passed. one horse was killed and four others badly hurt while the men escaped serious harm.

A late Washington dispatch reports the Emergency Fleet Corporation ordered a first shipment of lumber at 30 per thousand for 30 ships. Coos Bay Lumber Co of Oregon supplied the wood, at 5 under the standard defense price, with delivery at sea board and potential price reductions for the fleet. The project calls for about 45 million feet of lumber valued around 1.35 million dollars, with penalties for non delivery waived under strikes or acts of God. The Smith Co and its Marshfield docks are involved, with plant readjustments planned to meet large timber needs up to eighty feet in length.

Automobile Driver Lew Jacobs Faces Motor Law Charge
Lew Jacobs a typewriter salesman drives the auto in a collision that sent a four horse team into a canyon. Residents Kirkendall and companions allege the crash occurred when the lead horse was struck. Kirkendall then arrested Jacobs for violating state motor laws. The case was to be heard in Justice Dodge's court this afternoon with District Attorney J F Hall present.

Hetzel resigns as UAS Extension Director to helm New Hampshire college
Corvallis Ore June 30 Ralph D Hetzel director of the Oregon State Agricultural College Extension Service for four years resigns to become president of the New Hampshire Agricultural College at a salary of 5000 yearly with residence and perquisites. He built an outreach program translating station work to farms and homes and improved crops through rotation seed selection and pest control while expanding community life and cooperative marketing. He led food preparedness efforts in Oregon and earned wide respect for his service despite stepping down.
