Hawley Acts To Aid Homesteaders In District

Washington January 15 Congressman Hawley presents the case of a district homesteader he believes is unjustly persecuted under public land laws. Leroy P. Snapp of Grants Pass Oregon reports his patent held up in Washington after eight years of residence and a successful contest. Hawley finds Snapp acted in good faith.

Prizes for Boys and Girls in Oregon Industrial Exhibits

Corvallis Oregon January 12 prizes totaling thousands will be awarded to Oregon children for state and county fairs school fairs and industrial exhibits. State officials and multiple associations will organize contests in corn growing poultry manual training domestic science potato growing and other fields. The State Fair Association will provide 1400 cash prizes plus 2000 in other prizes and supporters expect more contributions while committees plan events for January 15. Some 30 industries will be included and entrants must keep accurate records for the college. Estimates place about 4000 exhibitors in one county. Horticulture Discussion Leads to State Society Join

County fruit inspector P M Hall Lewis attended a general meeting where horticulture topics were aired and members voted to join the state horticultural society.

Myrtle Point Horticultural Society Sprayer Fund Advances

The Myrtle Point Horticultural Society met at City Hall. Treasurer H H Stanford reports $55 paid toward the spray er fund, totaling $145. Members urged further collection and urged low fees for subscribers in 1912. The 5 horsepower sprayer with dual hoses could spray 900 small trees per day. The group plans to join the state horticultural society with a $10 fee. Next meeting January 24 at 1 30 p m.

Decision in Referendum Case at University of Oregon

Enthusiasm follows Judge Galloway's ruling on the University of Oregon referendum case. Delayed appropriation bills and forged petitions hamstrung fall work, crowded classes, and overworked staff. Aging Deady and McClure Halls limit space while newer buildings lack capacity. Supreme Court expected to uphold the lower court, enabling funds by March to ready the university for September.

Hawley Bills Lands Within Forest Boundaries Exchange

Congressman W C Hawley introduces a House bill to adjust State and Territory claims to lands inside national forests.
