Hunting Licenses Expire December 31 1911 and 1912 Rules

The Coos Bay News notes deputies warn hunters all licenses must be in possession before hunting, with notary receipts no longer accepted as licenses. Anti-Salém League Opens Campaign in Oregon

Portland reports the Anti-Saloon League issues a letter to every clergyman and many citizens urging united action on four policy planks. They demand congressional action to curb shipping liquor into dry areas under interstate commerce, a state constitutional change to prevent wet cities in dry counties, a friendly legislature, and strict enforcement of law through elections and personal effort. Oregon also receives 35 612.30 from forest reserves as its share of federal receipts for the year ending June 30, 1911, with warrants to follow.

Orchard Management bulletin issued by Oregon College

Corvallis January 5. Prof C S Lewis announces a 96 page bulletin on Orchard Management by the Oregon Agricultural College division of horticulture. The book includes 41 halftone engravings and diagrams and covers site choice land clearing planting intercropping tillage fertilizers irrigation pruning profits and overproduction. It discusses rejuvenating old orchards and the value of dwarf fruits and variety selection for different localities.

Port Commission Appointed for Coquilles River

Gov West in Salem appoints P L Phelan J N Gearhart Dr M O Stemmler C E Huling and T D Guerin to the Port of Coquilles River commission. Stemmler elected temporary president and Phelan temporary secretary. Guerin absent. Meeting set for January 19 to finalize permanent organization. No tax levy this year, delaying river work briefly.

Special Road Levies Protested by Coos County Association

Coos County fax Association secretary W. J. Conrad led a protest before Coos county commissioners in Coquille against all special road district levies. Protests seek nullification citing irregularities and excessive rates. District No 6 six units, No 12 ten mills, No 18 eight mills, No 26 five and a half mills, No 30 eight mills are named. Over $25,000 in takes involved.

Myrtle Point Forms Local Club To Boost Community

Fifteen citizens and business men met at Dr. Johnson's office to organize the Myrtle Club of Myrtle Point. Officers were elected including Dr. L. G. Johnson as president and C. E. Huling as vice president. The club aims to improve business, social and financial conditions and plans to occupy furnished quarters soon. Over 20 names joined the original petition, with membership expected to reach about fifty quickly.

Myrtle Point Horticultural Society Elects Officers and Plans Sprayer

The Myrtle Point Horticultural Society met at city hall with fruit growers represented. Officers elected: A. T. Train president H. A. Schroeder vice president S. D. Pulford secretary H. H. Stanford treasurer. Members subscribed for a spraying machine fund and reserve access for early users. The group plans to appoint O. H. Robinson as County Fruit Inspector Hall Lewis to manage the sprayer and spraying. The next meeting is scheduled for January 17 at 1:00 p.m.

Shooting at Coquille Claims GC B and E Roadmaster

Last Tuesday noon in Coquille W R Foote shot and killed Chas Wilcox roadmaster of the GC B R E on Front street. Foote cited Wilcox’s alleged improper relations with his daughter working in Wilcox’s Coaledo home. Foote, about 35, leaves two wives and a child. he surrendered to authorities.
