Two Victims In Coos County Deaths Attributable To Excessive Celebration

Two men died after Christmas in Coos county with coroner attributing death to alcoholism. Alec Carlson a logger found on a mud flat near the C A Smith yards died by accidental drowning on December 29 after near delirium tremens. H M Davidson newly arrived at Cady s camp on the Coquille from Crescent City was found dead in his bunk due to alcoholism and dyspepsia.

Marriage of Ernest J Schneider and Florence E Butler

Ernest J Schneider assistant postmaster Myrtle Point and Florence E Butler daughter of C H Butler were wed in California at the groom’s father E Schneider home Wednesday night at 9 Rev Thomas Barklow officiated in a small ceremony. They will live in their own home south of the Guerin hotel on Fifth street. The couple is popular and well regarded with many friends' best wishes.

Schmitt and Roberts Tie The Knot At Eugene Home

Frank J Schmitt of Creswell and Anna K Roberts of Myrtle Point wed in a private ceremony at Rev J M Farrells Eugene home. The couple, who met in Coos county three years ago, plan a two week honeymoon visiting Portland Seattle Hillsboro and Cornelius before settling in a Creswell residence built by the groom. Mrs Roberts is daughter of pioneer Coos county family J H Roberts and is highly regarded.

A federal suit filed in Portland seeks to enforce the 1860s Coos Bay wagon road grant terms. The United States alleges Southern Oregon company holds 96 676 acres in Coos and Douglas counties at an estimated value of 4 million dollars and has refused to sell at the 2 50 per acre requirement to actual settlers. If successful, the land could revert to the government or be offered to eligible buyers, affecting a major regional property parcel.
