North Bend Wins First In Local Debates Championship

The North Bend team clinched the Coos County championship at Benson's opera house after a close debate over capital punishment reforms. Myrtle Point defeated by Coquille for the negative, with North Bend earning 6 points to 4 for Myrtle Point and Coquille, Bardon 2. Additional note: Myrtle Point later beat Bandon in a separate round. Street Paving Considered by Spruce Streetowners

Last Monday evening property owners on Spruce street gathered at City Hall with W Q Cooper presiding. The meeting endorsed street improvement this year by repairing with crushed rock, while eight favored repair with rock and seven favored permanent paving for the Third to Sixth blocks. Businessmen and non residents supported permanent paving in part.

Death of Mrs Esau Prewitt Pioneer Lady of Oregon

Mrs Esau Prewitt died at her daughter Mrs Bert Andersons home on Lampa creek February 23 1912 at age 66 She was born Sarah E Archer in Cedar County Missouri April 24 1845 and crossed the plains in 1851 She married Esau Prewitt August 19 1860 and leaves eleven children and several grandchildren Funeral services were conducted at the Anderson home on Lampa creek with burial at Bear Creek cemetery Reverend Thos Baiklow officiating The Neal boys and extended family attended from the South Fork John Neal also connected to the family
