In a special city election held last Monday eighty seven votes were cast with 77 in favor and seven against the proposed amendment to raise the debt limit for waterworks from 25000 to 50000 dollars. Three ballots were discarded but no contest is expected as the tally favored the change 11 to 1. The next step is a vote on issuing bonds to fund the project to replace wooden mains with steel or iron piping.
Myrtle Point girls lost 14 to 1 to North Bend. Boys defeated Miller-Cleaver College 11 to 8 to win trophies. Prof. Baker and Mrs. Roberts accompanied the squads, with Grover Brown as referee. Umpire was Mr. Glazer. officers' decisions satisfied players and spectators. Next games: Myrtle Point boys at Coquille. Bandon boys visit on the 26th.
At the Barklow home in Myrtle Point on February 10, Allen Russell Panter wed Florence Arilda Barklow in a small ceremony led by Rev. Thos. Barklow. The pair, both well known locally, join families with deep roots in the area. Earlier, February 7, Albert Paull and Martha Miller united at the Miller home with about twenty five guests in attendance. Martha taught country districts and is praised in the community. Albert is a son of Rev. B. B. Paull. The couples plan future life together in the county boating and farming circles.

John Peter Barkdoll died at Norway Oregon on February 8 1909 age 76 after months of stomach cancer. Born in Maryland 1832 he moved to Iowa then Oregon in 1876 settling in Norway. He left a wife four sons and four daughters in Norway and five sons and four daughters in Iowa. Neighbors and friends extend sympathy as pioneers pass away.
