Mrs. W. J. Cole faced a large panther in the Cole ranch hen house at Ten Mile. She struck the animal with a nearby club, it fell, and she continued striking until it was dead. She escaped with a torn dress and will claim a $16 bounty for the panther.
W L Hood left for Santa Mesa California after two months in the area. Harry Dalmas and Julia Braden married in Vancouver Washington and will live in Portland. Oregon Agricultural College at Corvallis publishes its 1908 09 catalog noting rising enrollment and strong faculty. A river trip from Myrtle Point to Coquille and Bandon highlights new homes and improved residential districts.
Farmers in Coos and Curry counties may exhibit farm products including fruit vegetables corn and grain. Deliver items to J. O. Stemmler by August 24 with labels for credit. Free room and no expense to producers.
Seventh Day Adventists began a six day camp meeting in the Dixon grove, with many families encamped. Daily services start at 6:20 am, and at 4:30 pm, 2:30 pm and 8 pm. Rev. C W Flair from Portland leads, assisted by Rev J M Cole Salem Rev A Delamore Portland Rev C L Butterfield Marshfield Rev F Bunch Gravel Ford and T G Bunch McKinley. Remaining program includes prophetic world history, Sabbath, origin of Sunday observance, and obedience versus counterfeit. General invitation issued.
