Council rejects bids for street improvement work

New Dog License Law Held Invalid by Court
In Roseburg Oregon on August 4 Judge J. W. Hamilton ruled the new dog licensing act unconstitutional. The law, passed by the last legislature, imposed a 1.50 tax on male dogs and 3.50 on females in some counties and forced constables to enforce it, prompting resignations from about a third of county constables who refused. The court found the act against public policy and the constitution and noted it did not uniformly cover all state dogs.

Motor Vehicles Fee Revenues Rise in Peak Period
In Salem Oregon on August 4 figures compiled by Secretary Olcott show motor vehicle department fees from January 1 to August 1 this year totaled 176,139 dollars, up 29,885 from last year. Auto registrations rose to 43,886 this year from 30,504, while motorcycle and chauffeur registrations fell to 3,158 and 2,849 respectively.
