Brick Yard to Be Reopened Near Arago

The old Schroeder brickyard near Arago will reopen led by B L Tracy A W Tracy and Dick Buss of Bandon. Machinery from California arrived last week and will be set up this week. Production aims for 25 000 bricks daily and tile as fast as possible with plans for six and four inch tiles and quarter to half a million bricks this fall. A drainage tile program for river bottoms below the site is planned.

Typhoid Risks in Rural Wells Linked to Contamination

Physician investigators say two thirds of typhoid fever cases in the city originate from unsanitary country conditions and polluted well water. Farms often have wells near the dwelling that can be contaminated by barnyard or cesspool seepage, spreading infection through soil and groundwater. Contracts Put Through First Reading For Street Improments And Sewer

The council examined contracts for several street improvements and a sanitary sewer from the high school to the river. Bids for Spruce street paving from First to Fourth and for cross street grading between Spruce and Maple were opened. The paying contract went to S. C. Small of Marshfield and grading to J. J. Burns.

Coos County fair invites youths to enter unlimited contests with age and eligibility rules. Sewing, baking, and canning exhibits must be prepared by students and submitted by deadlines September 24 to 26. Entries travel to Myrtle Point via Coos County Air Association. prizes include an 8 year subscription to a valued publication. parents urged to attend with children.

Red Coats to Play Bandon Team This Sunday

The Red Coats travel by steamer May to Bandon for a Sunday game. The trip departs the forks of the river at 7:00 a.m. The boat should carry about forty fans in addition to the ball team. Hacks leave hotels at 6:30. Round trip tickets including back fare cost $1.00.

One Week's Tragedies Ends Life with Revolver

E Hamble a mill hand about thirty five, was found near the railroad a mile from Coquille last Friday morning with his brains blown out by a 38 calibre revolver. Coroner Wilson ruled death self inflicted after investigation. Letters from a Michigan brother and Washington sister found on him showed long personal crises.

Hadley Death on Bandon Wharf Leads to Arrest

In Bandon logger Charles C. Hadley died from a broken neck after a quarrel with J. W. Coach on the wharf last Tuesday. Coach is arrested and held under $2000 bond as grand jury probes the case. Witnesses say Coach struck Hadley during a scuffle and both men were reportedly intoxicated.

Boy 11 Shoots Man in Self Defense Near Bandon

Lyle Perrine, 11, of Roseburg, while camping with the Perrine family near Bandon last Monday afternoon, shot and killed 77 year old Jonathan Quick who camped nearby. The youth says it was self defense. Quick was father of ex Mayor Quick of Coquille. Funeral services will be held in Coquille today as Col. Jewel Post members travel to attend.

North Bend Wins Championship After Protested Game

North Bend defeated Coquille 9 to 2 on the Coquille grounds last Sunday to claim the championship after a protested match. The opening portion featured a battery exhibition and North Bend took the lead, while Myrtle Point and Coquille tied for second following a protested Myrtle Point Marshfield game.
