Church and Manse Burn at Bandon Spotlight Fire Loss

The Presbyterian church and manse in Bandon were destroyed by fire early Monday, totaling about 5000 dollars with insurance covering roughly a quarter. The church dates to about 19 years ago, the manse to about three years. Rebuilding plans are underway, as water scarcity and poor fire protection hindered the response.

Pioneer O J Gant dies in Coos county at 74

O J Grant longtime Coos county resident died at his South Fork home on April 10 1911 aged 74 years 7 months and 4 days Services were at the family home and cemetery lot at Neil with Rev Thos Bathlow conducting He was born in Cass county Michigan on September 6 1836 and migrated via Dupage and Rock Island to the Umpqua valley arriving September 6 1862 He settled in Coquille valley later serving as county judge three terms county commissioner three terms and justice of the peace four terms He is survived by his wife Sarah Clemenza Neil and three living children James John Zach and Glenn with others in Wyoming and Marshallfield The funeral was held at Coquille Saturday with large attendance

J L Lowe one of Coos county's earliest pioneers and a highly respected citizen died at his daughter Mrs A D Wolcott's Marshfield home last Thursday aged 87 years 5 months and 3 days He came to Coos Bay in 1858 later moved through the Coquille Valley Port Orford and California where he was married

Banker Submits to Operation at Mercy Hospital

L M Suplee cashier of Flanagan and Bennett bank Myrtle Point underwent an appendectomy at Mercy hospital Tuesday after a difficult start. The operation was successful and he is reported to be improving. George Winchester of Marshfield is aiding at the bank during his absence.

In Scarborough Davis unite at the home of Mr and Mrs L E Brown of this city Monday evening at 8 oclock Miss Opal Davis of Remote and Marshall J Scarborough of New York were married. The ceremony was performed by Rev Thos Barklow of the Brethren church and a large group of relatives and friends shared a fine dinner and celebration.
