Forest fires devastate Lewis River area in Washington
In Kalama Washington Sept 15 a violent forest fire on the Lewis river region has caused many deaths and widespread destruction. D L Wallace his wife and two children perished in a camping area. A 12 year old Hanley boy and several others are dead. Multiple families lost homes and belongings as five logging camps burned out. Fire spread toward the Kalama river with extensive timber loss and unreported casualties likely.

Fire destroys Kaiser box factory in Muscatine area
A morning blaze in Muscatine destroyed John H Kaiser's box factory and damaged the adjacent planing mill and saw mill. About 100 workers were affected as flames spread from the hogger shed, with extensive damage to lumber and accessories.
