In Texarkana on November 7 express messenger Thomas Copeland, who had filled a union man’s post with the Pacific Express Company, was assassinated in his car. The attackers fled the scene.
A west bound Clover Leaf passenger train near Frankfort Indiana ran into an open switch at twenty miles an hour. The entire train overturned slid down a fifteen foot embankment and climbed the roofs of coaches. Conductor Huntington of Toledo suffered fractured ribs and internal injuries. Several passengers from Kokomo Lafayett Forest and St Louis were named among the injured.
Berlin reports the German foreign office authorized a statement praising the United States for recognizing Panama as an independent republic. It adds that every great power would act similarly under similar circumstances.
The Protestant Episcopal church congress in Pittsburg ends with Rev. F. M. Clendenin of New York urging a name change to the Catholic Church of America. Rev. William R. Huntington agrees change is urgent but says it requires a change of heart.
Omaha police say Thomas Costello admitted part in the Eddie Cudahy kidnapping plot after a quarrel with a woman. He was arrested in Omaha Nebraska on November 7 for the crime that previously startled the nation.

The U S consul at Colon reports Portfirio Memendez has been named and sworn in as governor of Colon and Panama officially proclaims its independence. A Panama city telegram says conditions are quiet, while Bogota notes rumors of possible disturbances on the isthmus prior to any action taken.
Mrs. Fred Crombie, 31, shot herself through the brain in Marshalltown Iowa this morning. temporarily deranged, she had returned from Independence asylum ten days ago. family troubles were given as the cause of her mental condition.

Ottumwa Iowa Nov 7 Special The couple Cleveland Widener eighteen and Pearl Losbaker fifteen both from Sigourney eloped at midnight taking a liveryman s rig. No trace of them has been found.

Indianapolis November 7 Coroner Tutewiler says the wreck of the Purdue special on the Big Four rests with I H Bishop the Shelby street station operator who has left the city and cannot be located.
The general committee on church extension of the Methodist church approved only 700 dollars of a requested 3500 to assist struggling churches in Iowa.
Mrs. Edgar E. Clark wife of the grand chief of the Order of Railway Conductors dies at her Cedar Rapids home after a long illness.
Columbus Ohio November 7 official word states the next Republican national convention will be held in July.
A receiver was appointed today for the Carpenter Steel company of Reading Pennsylvania, moved to protect the steel works and its creditors. The appointment was made in Reading on November 7.
A horse drawn by Dr. A. J. Oliver slipped on the wet pavement near Walnut Street yesterday as it turned into the alley toward the barn. The leg is believed broken and the animal likely to be killed. The accident was caused by the slippery surface.

Davenport Iowa November 7 Miss Poddie Ross Davenport s famed singer has gone to Italy where she will wed Ernest Otto Muller in December.
Three young residents died in quick succession leaving families in grief. Grover C. Weikert aged eighteen died at Hershey hospital from tuberculosis after an earlier hip injury. Verne Yeater two died at home from membranous croup on Bridgman street and infant Reed daughter of Mr and Mrs Reed died after a five day illness in Rock Island county Illinois.
G. O'Day, a 21 year old brakeman on the Rock Island system, was killed instantly last night at Tiffin near Iowa City while switching in the yards. He attempted to rush between two cars as they moved together and was fatally mangled. His body was sent to Brooklyn, his home.
