Indians on Montana campus study basic education program
Montana's Native families are moved from the reservation to the University of Montana for an $850,000 federal state project. The program funds reading arithmetic and language skills, health and economics for housewives, schooling for older children, and nursery care. May 17 marks graduation for 76 heads of families from seven reservations, with most employees in low paying jobs or unemployed prior. Trainees receive stipends, BIA support, and campus housing while completing 24 to 36 weeks of study aimed at higher employment opportunities.
