A contractor crew at Weed Park works on the East Hill water tower. The surface was sand blasted and spot primed as the Utility department adopts a new color scheme, applying weatherwood aft-white with blue accents.
State aid to the Eastern Town College district is estimated at 521,013 for the fiscal year starting July 1. The district covers St Mosca and Clinton community college campuses and Scott county technical facilities. The estimate was released by AP from Iowa Department of Public Instruction projections.
Rates list daily carrier and mail subscriptions for Muscatine area. Prices shown include $2.00 monthly in advance for Muscatine city delivery, 40 cents per week for other carriers, and annual mail options from $14.00 to $70.08 depending on distance. Two cars collided at 9 p m Tuesday in Muscatine injuring no one reported. Drivers Richard Dewight Jones 43 of 2 Pine Street and George Nicholas Fisher of 2 Orange Street were eastbound and westbound on East 6th Street at Mulberry Avenue respectively when the crash occurred. Damages struck included Fisher s right rear fender and Jones right front fender.
A truck driver was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City after a Salvage Co. truck from Iowa City rolled over west of the Atalissa overpass. Deputies said the eastbound rig left the road, then overturned while attempting to return to the highway, with scrap metal cleared from the roadway by highway crews.
The Grace Lutheran Church Women held their regular meeting Tuesday afternoon at the church. Mrs Alys Lewis led devotions and Bible study from I Corinthians Saints Together at the Lord's Table. She presented The Tender Transplant on newcomers adjusting to the community. Mrs Ida Schlutz chaired the business session and announced Group A will assist with the mother daughter party and host the dinner honoring the 1968 Grace Lutheran graduates on May 26 after the 10 45 a m service. At least eight quilts have been finished and 19 calls made this month. Thank you notes were read and refreshments were served by Mrs Charles Opei.
The Muscatine Municipal Light and Water board of trustees approved changing the municipal utilities name to Muscatine Power and Water at their regular monthly meeting. The action also authorized use of a new blue and white emblem to represent the utility.
Dr James W Smalley longtime Muscatine resident earned a Master of Science in Pedodontics at the University of Michigan. He is opening a practice at 1520 7th St Moline with wife Priscilla Bauguess. The piece notes his education, family, and local civic ties including a Muscatine Development Corp membership.
A Kern Tag Day fundraiser will stage a Saturday picnic at Crapo Park in Burlington for Muscatine schoolchildren who sold 100 or more tags. Walter Knox said the group departs from Muscatine High School lot in the morning. Top prize winners include Jeannie Adams 120 tags for $3, Candis Welch $2 for 116 tags, Wayne Cubbage and Diane Toyne $1 each for 116 tags. Proceeds support needy school children.
