Burglaries Strike Two Muscatine Businesses on Hershey Avenue

Cigarettes and money were stolen in two break ins on Hershey Avenue Muscatine early today. At Chet's A Go Go tavern 1209 Hershey Ave missing were cigarettes and coins after thieves forced entry as owner left for breakfast. At Hershey Market 1204 Hershey Ave a case of 30 cartons of assorted cigarettes and about $35 in cash vanished from a rear entry through a broken door into the adjoining Ro mann and Liebbe Co. slaughter house. A large collie dog watched from the slaughter house. Police responded about 6:40 am.

Revocation Of Parole Ordered In Muscatine

Gary G. Holladay of Muscatine had parole revoked and was ordered to serve four months in county jail. He was on a two year parole for a May 9 forged instrument conviction. court listed prior offenses including possession of stolen property on June 11 liquor by a minor on June 13 and trespassing on a motor vehicle on June 13.

Whit tington Retires As Muscatine County School Secretary

Mrs Kathleen Whit tington longtime secretary in the Muscatine office of the Muscatine Scott county school system retires after 13 years to become secretary of the special education department in Davenport under Superintendent L L Pickett. The department operates in a mobile unit and employs 810 speech clinicians and special education personnel. She began service in Muscatine in 1955 under Superintendent Frank Ralston and served through the 1966 merger of the two county units under a new law.

Car Break-In Nets Thieves $50 In Cash

Muscatine police investigate a break-in at a car belonging to Maynard Eckhardt in Weed Park Rural Muscatine. About $50 was stolen from purses and billfolds left in the car by passengers. The incident occurred at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Muscatine Fourth parade and fireworks line up on Iowa Avenue

Muscatine will host a Fourth of July weekend with a 4 unit parade and a 9 30 p m fireworks display on Tuesday. The show will light the north side of Weed Park near Colorado street as Jaycees sponsor the event and holiday crowds settle on nearby hills. Marching units and individuals assemble before 10 30 a m Tuesday at the corner of 5th street on Iowa Avenue and proceed north several blocks for the parade.

Heinz Expects Profit Gains Driven by Ketchup Sales Rise

Heinz, led by President R Burt Gookin, projects higher sales and profits next year after a fiscal year end May 3 showing profits up 6.7 percent to 3.51 per share. Republicans Plan Annual Fish Fry at Box Car Ranch

County chairman Robert Bosch announced plans for the Republican Central Committee fish fry to be held Wednesday evening July 12 at Box Car Ranch. Republicans and friends are invited with reservations urged by calling 263-7970 or 263-6252. Bosch said the program includes no political speeches but features dunk tank entertainment with politicians and dignitaries. Several state Republican officials and First District friends are expected to attend.
