Muscatine Jaycees near completion plans for July 4th
Muscatine prepares a full Independence Day program with carnival rides starting Thursday at Weed Fork through Sunday. The Friday parade at 10 a.m. will feature Mayor E S Burns as grand marshal and over 30 entries including out of town participants from Wilton Jct West Liberty and Illinois City. A Miss Muscatine pageant at 7 p m Saturday at Muscatine High School will crown a winner among 11 contestants with tickets at 2 each. The Jaycees will award 2000 in scholarships to semi finalists, a record for Iowa. Fireworks cap the events at Weed Park around 9 p m.

Hit and run driver sought after Bond Street crash
Police investigated a hit and run at Bond Street near Clinton. Ronald E. McCleary of 2014 Sampson reported his Chevrolet suffered $100 damage to a right door when another car struck and fled at 1:17 a.m. today.

Fire destroys garage on rural Muscatine farm
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed an old garage at the rural home of Mr and Mrs Dennis Van Wey on Rt 2 Highway 61 about five miles east of Muscatine shortly before 2 pm Friday. A power lawnmower bicycles children's toys and an 18 foot ladder were inside. A strong wind fed the blaze and the Muscatine rural fire unit arrived as the building burned down. A nearby dam did not suffer damage.

Chamber directs agricultural committee to boost local farming economy

A 31 piece collection of paintings and collages by New York artist Jeannette Judson opens Sunday at the Laura Musser Art Gallery. Her training included the National Academy School and the Art Students League. Her work is in several public and private collections and she is married to Yale's Art Department chairman Henry Judson. The exhibition runs until July 20.
