Muscatine County approves 1968 budget and reapppoints assessor
The conference board met at the courthouse at 10 a m and approved a 337,745 budget for the county for 1968. County Assessor John Graham was re appointed for a six year term starting January 1 1968. The un encumbered balance is about 10,000 leaving 23,745 to be raised by taxation. The levy is slightly over 4 mill about 50 cents per 1,000 assessed value. Last year’s rate was .59 mill. New buildings and added industry boosted the county’s assessed value by 1 400 000 this year. 1966 assessed value was 37 445 749.

Clinton Man Held for Rape
John A. Hendry, 37, of Clinton, was jailed on a $2,000 bond after arraignment in Municipal Court for rape of a 17 year old married woman. The alleged assault occurred Thursday in Clinton.
