Angela Burwinkel, 13, died in a hospital after nearly drowning in a wading pool at Cherry Hill Park. Authorities say she likely had a seizure in or near the pool before being found face-down in about one foot of water. the official cause is drowning.
The body of a woman was pulled from the Iowa River south of Iowa City by two fishermen who notified the Johnson County Sheriff's Department. The body lay in driftwood about five miles south of U S 6 off Land Road, and investigators had no matching missing person reports.
The body of 41 year old Rolland Moore of Orient was found hanging in his jail cell by Sheriff James Dory during a breakfast check around 10 30 a m Sunday. Moore had been held for trial in his wife Shirley Moore's June death.
The Associated Press reports four weekend traffic deaths in Iowa with one more fatality from injuries a week prior. Debra Loesche, 19, of rural Dyersville, died when a car her husband drove rolled over on a Delaware County road. Daniel Nagl, 20, of rural Carroll, died after his motorcycle collided with a car at U.S. 71 and 30 near Carroll. John Turnis, 21, of Manchester, died when his motorcycle apparently lost control on Iowa 151 near Anamosa. Kevin Peckenschneider, 22, of Dixon, died in a head on crash with a semi-trailer on a gravel road between Dixon and Donahue. Kenneth Keller, 16, of rural Diagonal, died from head injuries a week after a nearby accident.
