Girls Strike At Davenport Garment Plant Over Union Wages
Thirty eight female workers walked out at the Shhaeffer garment factory in Davenport after the firm refused to state if union wages would apply. The strike stems from April when the union formed and the firm promised union prices. The demanded raise is about 15 percent as workers say the labor is hard and current pay is low. The workers expect the firm to honor the union scale.
