Plan to Curtail Campaign Funds in Congress
Washington D C June 22 An investigation into campaign contributions in the 1904 and 1908 general elections is proposed by Senator Culberson Texas. The inquiry would be conducted by the privileges and elections committee with instructions to report methods to curtail subscriptions to proper and legitimate sources. Senator McGumber introduced a bill amending the pure food and drug act to align with Taft recommendations. The House, by 171 to 121, refused to concur with the Bristow amendment giving Congress power over election timing and manner. the House would require state legislatures to prescribe fines and election details. Third-session appropriations totaled 1 026 682 852, down 1 218 747 from the prior session, per joint statements by appropriations committees.
