Crowds fill streets as royal processions pass through London toward Westminster Abbey. Magnificent pageants, banners, and music unfold the imperial ceremony with notable figures from around the world attending the event and paying homage to the new king.
London June 22. King George V and Queen Mary were crowned at Westminster Abbey in a medieval style ceremony. The event drew a vast, diverse crowd as processions moved through crowded streets, with jubilant scenes across Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square. Royal and international observers watched a historic moment in the British empire’s ceremonial life.
Chicago editor Hinman testified before the Illinois senate committee on Lorimer election bribery amid requests by former Governor Yates to be heard. Attorney Marble questioned Hinman about jackpots and funds tied to Illinois legislation while Deneen agreed to testify. A farm hand named Anton Benak died from sunstroke near Cedar Rapids, aged 24.
London reports two fatal coronation accidents today. A cannon burst near Lymeray shattered a prominent citizen. at Barnstable an archway collapse left a woman dead and several people badly hurt. An Indian officer was thrown from a horse in the Mall but escaped serious injury. A cavalry horse caused minor crowd disruption before capture.
Multitudes gathered in London as King George and Queen Mary left the palace to Westminster Abbey. He wished prosperity for the king and his family and for continued friendly relations between Great Britain and the United States as Ambassador Bryce and the British embassy staff attended prayer and thanksgiving services at St John Episcopal Church.
The Southern Iowa Editorial association opened its annual convention in Des Moines with large attendance. President J. M. Anderson of the Indianola Herald presided. Afternoon sessions featured addresses by W. D. Junkin Fairfield Ledger J. L. Long Osceola Sentinel Paul Stillman Jefferson Bee Philip Hoffman Oskaloosa Herald and Lafayette Young Des Moines Capital. Morning included enrollment of members and a reception. Officers to be elected tomorrow.

Unfavorable report from waterway committee did not stop calendar action as debate and committee of the whole follow. SenateFinance turmoil delays wool tariff and free list bills amid coalition shifts and reci procity uncertainty.
The will of Mrs Mary G Eddy founder of the Christian Science church was admitted to probate in Suffolk County probate court. Attorney General James H Swift of Massachusetts immediately appealed to the supreme court on the question of domicile.
Washington June 22 A House sugar investigating committee inquiry focused on a pre campaign conference between Michigan beet sugar men and then Secretary of War Taft. CG B Warren denied any general tariff schedules were discussed, saying Taft disclosed Philippine sugar concerns and sought aid to ease opposition to Philippine free sugar. Joseph I Smith leader of the Mormon church and Utah Idaho Beet Sugar director said he was en route to Washington and would appear without a subpoena.
The forecast notes warm weather with possible thunderstorms in the north portion. Ilona Fall and Friday are expected to be warm with chances of storms. Sunrise is 4 15 and sunset 7 81 with a stray afternoon time unclear.
