Coronation Accidents Kill Two in London and Barnstable

London reports two fatal coronation accidents today. A cannon burst near Lymeray shattered a prominent citizen. at Barnstable an archway collapse left a woman dead and several people badly hurt. An Indian officer was thrown from a horse in the Mall but escaped serious injury. A cavalry horse caused minor crowd disruption before capture.

Taft Sends Cable to King George on Dominion Prosperity

President Taft sent a cablegram to King George expressing sincere pleasure and cordial felicitations for the British dominion to flourish under the king's guiding influence. Taft questioned over sugar tariff talk in 1908

Washington June 22 A House sugar investigating committee inquiry focused on a pre campaign conference between Michigan beet sugar men and then Secretary of War Taft. CG B Warren denied any general tariff schedules were discussed, saying Taft disclosed Philippine sugar concerns and sought aid to ease opposition to Philippine free sugar. Joseph I Smith leader of the Mormon church and Utah Idaho Beet Sugar director said he was en route to Washington and would appear without a subpoena.
