Plan Overseas Flight For U S War Planes

Washington D C June 21 Big American air and seaplanes should fly across the Atlantic to reach the front by next summer. Major General W Brancker of the British air ministry said the pilot trans Atlantic flight should be attempted at once. The British air council has decided on trans Atlantic flights to move American made aircraft to the front. Initial flight may occur this autumn in a British machine from Newfoundland touching the Azores and Portugal before Ireland. Flight could take about forty hours with crews including an engineer a relief of pilots and a navigating officer. Weather engine reliability and forecast accuracy are key factors.

Local boards to consider most of caseloads and attendants under the draft while non productive roles are narrowed as non essential. Crowder officials say baseball players remain non productive until a ruling is appealed, but travel salesmen must be treated as producing jobs while auto salesmen in unions are excluded. Leading U S Ace Missing After Fight in France

West Lieutenant Frank L. Baylies of New Bedford Massachusetts, a leading American ace in the French flying corps, is missing after a four German planes engagement. Baylies, 22, had 12 aerial victories since Feb 1918 and had been promoted through the ranks. He earned the Legion of Honor on June 1 and served with the American field ambulance before joining France.
