Hypnosis for Smoking Not Helpful Across Cases Warns Doctor
At the American Medical Association annual meeting Dr. Sheldon B. Cohen warned that hypnosis to quit smoking may harm some long term smokers. He cited a case of a man who quit under hypnosis, then drank at a party and beat his wife and friend. Cohen noted 10 cases with mixed results, suggesting hypnosis is not proven to help all quitters. He urged safer, proven methods and cautioned that removing cigarettes may pose greater risks in ill patients.
