I. H. Peterson, general manager and vice president of Batterson's, announced a three year remodeling program starting with the store interior and exterior renovation at the Batterson's department store located at 319 E. 2nd St. The project aims to overhaul the store comprehensively.
Aerial spray remains planned for Muscatine early Thursday morning to battle mosquitoes. The Ames Applicator Service notified sanitation chief Frank Anson the air is clear and the weather front causing wet conditions has moved out. If weather permits, spraying will proceed. otherwise a postponement may occur. Damages were reported to two cars in a rear end collision Saturday at 5:33 pm on East 6th Street near Oak Street in Muscatine, involving Dewey Applegate and Lawrence Kennedy. The building remodel progress continues with exterior work 75 percent complete and new features planned for the main floor and upper floors. Mrs. Harold Hayes won the Swank Perpetual Challenge Bowl at the State Rose Society show in Newton with six hybrid tea roses among her entries and a second attendant trophy. Other Muscatine exhibitors, including Paul Roberts and George Hermann, earned ribbons as over 1,100 rose specimens were shown.
Justice Court presided by Ray L. Pace reports dismissals for failure to appear in malicious injury and related cases. It lists assault and battery, liquor by minor, intoxication on highway, carrying a loaded pistol, and parole violation with fines. Also notes orders to destroy hunting equipment, and numerous hospital admissions and dismissals.
DES MOINES AP The Town House refused 48 60 to concur in a Senate amendment to a bill banning work by migratory farm children under 14. The bill, aimed at fields during school hours, would prohibit any child under 14 from working with migratory workers and would bar employers from permitting such work. The Senate proposed restoring the original form, sending the measure back to the Senate for potential conference. Hundreds of migratory workers, mainly from Texas and Mexico, harvest tomatoes and vegetables in several Iowa counties, with hearings noting some children are required to work in the fields.
WASHINGTON AP Members of the International Association of Machinists reportedly walked off jobs in Southern Pacific Railroad yards at Roseville California as a no strike period imposed in six shopcraft unions by Congress ended. An IAM spokesman said leadership had no report of a California walkout and called unauthorized if it occurred. The pledge aimed to prevent a nationwide rail stoppage during legislative action.
Seven members of an independent Philippine Catholic sect were killed by a band of about 200 anti Christian fanatics who attacked their Nuevavista headquarters in the central Philippines. Troops hunted the attackers after the clash as the National Catholic Church members were identified.

Mrs Gertie Myrtle Allison celebrated her 85th birthday Sunday with a Muscatine picnic. Born in Illinois City, she has lived in the Muscatine area all her life. She has two children Ray Allison and Mrs Sara Lewis, both of Muscatine.
Kenneth Fairall spoke to the Rotary Club of Muscatine at Progress Park, describing hydroponic tomato production at his Golden Yield Farm in Muscatine. He outlined growing methods and the farm’s role in local agriculture.
Luci Johnson Nugent expected her baby to arrive by Sunday and prepared a Father's Day gift for President Johnson. She gave a oval frame with no photo, its pink and blue felt lining marked with question marks, accompanied by a poem explaining the empty frame.
Mrs Susan Barker leads sessions at the Laura Musser Art Gallery and Museum with separate times for younger students on Tuesdays and older students on Thursdays.
