The 196 Town Soil Conservation Field Day and state plowing matches are planned September 9 10 on the Fletcher Jennings farm south of Van Meter. Activities include conservation demonstrations on waterway construction erosion control tillage terracing soil cropping and pond construction with commercial displays and women’s exhibits. Sponsors include the Sale Soil Conservation Committee Le Town Association of Soil Conservation Districts commissioners WHO Des Moines and the Dallas County Soil Conservation District.

Ames Iowa The deadline for nominations for the Distinguished Dairyman awards is July 1 Dor Voelker extension dairy specialist at Iowa State University reminded dairymen today Tom Lyon field secretary of the Iowa State Dairy Association explained that nominations for 1994 must be made on regular nomination forms These forms have been sent to county extension directors dairy marketing organizations and other interested dairy groups They could also be obtained from the office of the Iowa State Dairy Association Iowa State University Ames The completed nomination blanks should also be sent to this address Dairymen will be selected for the awards on the basis of past production performance feeding management and health programs leadership activities in dairy organizations and service to their communities The Distinguished Dairyman awards will be presented next fall at the 1961 meeting of the Iowa State Dairy Association and the American Dairy Association of Iowa The recognition program was developed upon recommendations of the Iowa Purebred Dairy Cattle Council Sponsoring the awards are the Cedar Rapids Gazette the Iowa State Dairy Association and the Cooperative Extension Service of Iowa State University The Muscatine County Angus tour will be held on June 28 starting at 30 acm The tour will include the fares of Russ Braman Charlie Henderson and Harry P Schneider before dinner There will be a basket dinner at Henry Baer's at noon where election of officers and a short program will be held The speaker will be J C Hulbert of Bett omc or s a former professor at Town State and now a cattle leader After the dinner the tour will wind up at Wayne Wetzel Sr and Jr farm
