Lad Dies While Wading in Mississippi River Near W. Block Yard
Boyd Ferguson, 15, of 109 West Second Street drowned in the Mississippi River near the W G Block yards while wading for crawfish with George Barrows and others on shore. Barrows, an 18 year old telegraph messenger, tried to reach him but could not due to swift current and heavy clothes. The river depth near shore was shallow a short distance with the main channel toward the Iowa side and reported depth about 20 feet further out. Continuous search by river men followed the tragedy.

Born July 11 1861 in Lewis County New York he married Sarah E McIntire in 1888. Survived by four children and two grandchildren with one son predeceasing him. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at the Ellsworth Satterthwaite home with burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery West Liberty.

Two Bankers Convicted Seek New Trial
Burlington bankers Joiner Davison and Roy D. McCullough were found guilty by a jury in Judge A P Barker's court of receiving deposits while their privately owned bank the Commercial was insolvent. They prepared today to seek a new trial with 15 days to file motions. If denied they plan to appeal to the state supreme court.
