Rev Thomas Hotle Named First Methodist Associate

Rev Thomas Hotle, former pastor of Muscatine North Methodist Parish, is appointed Associate Pastor at First Methodist church. The Des Moines conference announced the posting at the South Iowa Methodist annual meeting led by Bishop James S. Thomas. This marks the church's first associate pastor. Hotle will serve under Senior Pastor Dr J Henry Teete.

Sgt J Koch to Return to Vietnam From Leave

Marine Sgt John R Koch, son of Mr and Mrs Donald Koch of 217 Clinton, is home on a 25 day fur lough and will return to Vietnam July 3 after 14 months there in 1965 and 1966. He served in Vietnam during those years and is set to resume duties overseas. Rev Hotle to continue youth work and Christian education at Park Avenue Methodist Church following previous pastorate.

City Spray Is Delayed Here Again

Muscatine's scheduled aerial spraying for mosquito control was postponed again this morning due to continued thundershowers moving across the state. Sanitation superintendent Frank Anson said spraying will occur when weather clears, likely later in the week. The initial Ames Applicator Service spray had been set for last Thursday but was delayed by weather conditions.

Driver Flees From Scene Of Accident In Muscatine

Three Muscatine residents were treated and released from Muscatine General Hospital after a 1:40 a.m. crash at Grandview Avenue and Main Street. Larry Leslie Ford, Ruth Ford, and Nellie Ford received first aid, while Thomas E. Maylone fled the scene. Maylone’s car was demolished and Ford’s car sustained left side and front damage. Maylone faces a charge of leaving the scene with an investigation ongoing.

Four Cars Damaged In Muscatine Weekend Accidents

Two incidents in Muscatine over the weekend damaged four cars. On Sunday at 7 38 p m Jeannette Thorndyke and Louise Kenney collided at East 2nd Street and Iowa Avenue after a signal change. Thorndyke and Kenney suffered right side and left front damage respectively. Earlier, Timothy Quinn and Hazel Sateras were in a head-on collision at East Mississippi Drive and Mulberry Avenue with both cars damaged but no injuries reported. Dorm visiting at Northwestern University will not resume next year after a trial period.

Jerry Jones and Mary Lister Jones live at 1313 Cedar St with Angela, their months old daughter learning to walk. Jerry works at Fox's Sportswear and enjoys fishing, auctions, refinishing furniture, bowling, and reading. They are active in the Catholic Family Movement at St Mathias church and Jerry leads the July 4th parade. Pierre Johnet the poodle is the family non posing pet.

McPike Wins Tri City Rose Show Trophy

Dr. J. D. McPike of Mulberry, Muscatine, won one of five trophies in the special collections division at the 27th annual Rose and Flower Show held Sunday at the Moline American Legion building. The division was limited to Tri City Rose and Garden Club members and the American Rose Society. The Queen of the Show went to N. B. Schuler of Moline for a dark red Karl Herbst hybrid tea rose.

Over the weekend six windows were broken in Muscatine using rocks bottles and soda pop. Autopsy Planned After Iowa Garage Death

Mrs. Erling Kosters 33 was found dead in the family garage in Rock Valley. Her husband lay unconscious in their car nearby and remained so at Sioux Center hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for today in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to determine the cause of death.

Alcohol Project Set to Continue Despite Ruling

Governor Harold Hughes defies an attorney general opinion and proceeds with the Iowa Comprehensive Alcoholism Project ICAP. Turner maintains federal funds cannot be used and transfers lack legislative authority. Hughes says he is on solid legal ground after consulting lawyers.

An investigation is underway into a break-in at Muscatine Plumbing and Heating Co. located at 206 Monroe Street. Officials say the incident occurred between 8:15 a.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. today as investigators assess possible losses.

Bridges Elected Vice President of Iowa Association for Retarded

Harold R. Bridges of Muscatine was elected first vice president of the Iowa Association for Retarded Children at the state convention in Marshalltown. Other officers include W. A. Pattison of Denison as president and William Hester of North English as second vice president. Delegates from Muscatine County included Mrs. Nevin Stender and Mrs. Gene Saylor. Tours of facilities in Marshall County inspired plans for better services in Muscatine County. Separately, fallout protection surveys were mailed to Muscatine residents. about 64 percent have returned them. The Census Bureau computes basement protection against fallout and mails confidential reports at no cost. Residents are urged to promptly complete and return the forms.

Mental Health Panel Planned by Muscatine Association

The Muscatine County Mental Health Association will meet Tuesday June 13 at Hotel Muscatine. Dinner at 6 30 p m followed by an 8 p m panel discussion. The public is invited to attend either or both events. Reservations for dinner are by calling the hotel. The program features two ministers and two attorneys discussing how the counseling center could assist people involved in court cases.

Walter Bayers Receives Moose Pilgrim Degree

Walter V. Bayers secretary of Muscatine Lodge No. 388 Loyal Order of Moose received the Moose lodge Pilgrim degree Saturday at Mooseheart Illinois. The Pilgrim degree is the lodge’s highest honor. He was accompanied by his wife, John Roelle and John W. Alexander Sr. Roelle and Alexander also wear the Pilgrim degree.

Spark Plug Heist At Mapco Warehousing Worth $6581

Thieves stole several thousand Auto-Lite spark plugs valued at $6,581.88 from Mapco Warehousing Co at 1608 Dewey Ave after cutting through the building. Loss categorized as regular $5,666.88 and resistor $915. Muscatine police were notified at 10:15 a.m.
