Hog Cholera Outbreaks Rise to 11 in May
Eleven hog cholera outbreaks in May affected 2,841 swine across Iowa with four more outbreaks than April. Dr. M. E. Pomeroy of the Iowa State Department of Agriculture urged continued vaccination and anti cholera serum as counties such as Carroll Story and Pottawattamie reported outbreaks and vaccination gaps. Despite rising May outbreaks, officials say control remains stronger than the previous year and summer efforts aim to eliminate new cases.
