Survey Team Checks Water Flow at Wapsie Bridge
A Geological Survey team from the Department of the Interior conducted a water velocity test and depth soundings at the Wapsie bridge on highway 76 east of Nichols on Wednesday afternoon as floodwaters from heavy rain Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning poured under the bridge.

Cub Pack 99 Awards Given at Jefferson School Park
The last Cub Pack 99 meeting of the year at Weed Park featured the pledge, attendance awards for Den 1, and numerous recognitions. Awards went to Walter Elder, Lloyd Whitlow, Lenz Lorber, Jim Scott, Dan Welker, Bob Newman, and Jim Christensen. Cubs received bobcats, wolf and bear honors, Webelos pins, denner bars, gold and silver arrows, with several year pins. Bill to regulate debt management firms advances in Senate
DES MOINES AP A House passed bill regulating firms that manage a person s debts cleared the Senate 38 to 1 on Wednesday and moves back to the House with amendments. It targets companies that gather a debtor s money and distribute it to creditors amid complaints of high fees. The bill sets a maximum fee at 12 percent with Senate tweaks to reward early pay and limit fees unless half creditors consent. It would license firms under the state banking superintendent and require a bond to protect clients funds.
