Weather observer marks 25th year in Muscatine area
May heat and storms dominated the Muscatine region as official weather observer RJ Bauerbach entered his 25th year of service beginning May 8 1917. May highs reached 90 on May 20 and 21 with a mean May temperature of 63.9 degrees far exceeding last year, while rainfall patterns showed 4.79 inches in May 1972 versus a 3.69 inch normal. Nearby Conesville community notes describe Cub Scouts visiting the Iowa Muffler Factory at Columbus Junction and a season of social visits and gatherings among residents.
