Accidents on Grandview In Rain Drizzle Monday
Rain soaked Grandview Avenue in Muscatine saw four auto crashes Monday afternoon and evening. One person, Rita May, was injured and taken to Muscatine General Hospital in good condition. Vehicles driven by Leo May, Donald Long, Nobel Payne, Daniel Ford, Keith Stych, Ethel Dean, Charles Huston, and Earl Magdie were involved in rear end and side collisions at Grandview and Pearl, the bowling alley drive, and near Main Street.

The Associated Press reports Iowa showers to ease tonight with possible lingering showers or storms in northern and western areas. Temperatures will drop to the 60s tonight and rise near 80 tomorrow under cloudy skies. Rainfall was heavy and widespread, especially in dry western Iowa, with Carroll over four inches in two hours and other towns around three inches.

The Park Commission launches supervised playgrounds starting Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Zoo Development Efforts Highlighted at Muscatine Kiwanis
Dan Ales told the Muscatine Kiwanis club that efforts to turn Weed Park Zoo into a city asset are underway with help from the Army Reserve Unit which has spent two Sundays improving cages and fencing. The Friends of the Weed Park Zoo formed this year seeks funds and volunteers. memberships are $1 for under 18, $2 individuals, $5 families, and $10 for businesses. A comprehensive plan is being drawn by Stanley Consultants. John Robinson said the city park commission plans to spend not more than $20,000 annually for zoo salaries, feeding and operating costs, plus vending, gifts, and tax money. Zoo Week is this week.

Hunted Iowan Has Gun Fail Against Trooper
A pursued Iowan turned a shotgun on a state trooper, but the weapon failed to fire. Charles Fullam, 35, from Des Moines, was captured near Cedar River after trooper Claire Helms and a tracking dog closed in. He was arraigned in Menominee justice court and bound over to circuit court on charges including rape, kidnapping, assault and armed robbery.
