The Fortuna, a $30,000 river steamer built for shoal waters, will visit Muscatine late this month or early July. Owned by Chicagoan John W. Parmellee, it will tour all summer with Captain D S McCorquodale at the helm. A novel Gulf voyage by water avoids the Illinois canal route, using Green Bay Wisconson River and the Mississippi, adding about 1,000 miles. Also, 14-year-old Joseph Ferguson of Mt. Sterling, Van Buren county, was killed by lightning while sheltering under a tree.
