Victoria B C February 12 The British sloop of war Condor and crew of 130 officers and men have been given up as lost. The survey ship Egeria arrived after a coast voyage bearing wreckage indicating the Condor was smashed by heavy seas off the Pacific coast after departing for Honolulu December 2.
Earlville Iowa February 12 at a referee sale in Colony township a 120 acre farm formerly owned by the late Peter Kinphrey was bought by Jno Crabel for 105 dollars per acre. Delaware county land values have risen notably over the past two years.
Chicago February 12 indicates Iowa snow flurries Thursday and possibly tonight with slightly warmer conditions tonight.

Lawrence Countryman six year old son of Mrs A J Countryman disappeared from his grandparents home in St Joseph Michigan. He has not been seen since yesterday morning and left coatless. This marks another sensational kidnapping involving the child following two prior cases.
Pittsburg February 12. Engineer William Jackson tells the coroner he was on duty thirteen hours and so fatigued he slept at his post as investigators probe the fatal collision on the Pittsburg Fort Wayne and Chicago line near Haysville.
Detroit February 12 The Union Trust company appointed a receiver for the wrecked City Savings Bank after it was revealed as a troubled institution. The action follows the bank's collapse and mobilizes pending claims and protection for depositors.
The assistant state food commissioner disclosed that four Chicago slaughter houses handle horses mules and donkeys instead of real beef. Aimed at restaurants markets and lunchrooms the meat is sold as corned beef hamburger steak or sausage often pickled or canned. Slaughter occurs between 2 and 4 am with deliveries before daylight under cover of darkness.

Sir Thomas Lipton plans a 1904 visit to Chicago as guest of Olympian Games Association officials to witness speed and endurance contests. He may bring Shamrock II for exhibition to western audiences.

St Paul Feb 12 The Great Northern has served an answer denying that its aim was to withdraw stock to consolidate control of the Great Northern and establish a central management for the two systems. Sophia Chapman and Milton Boyden are plaintiffs seeking to block stock transfer.
