The burnt schooner, a three masted unknown carrier, burned seven miles off Cape May last night. The vessel's cargo and passenger details remain undisclosed. Life Savers battled ice to attempt a rescue, failing by dawn as the hull drifted in ice near the shore.
A. W. Beckit filed a $20,000 damages suit against the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific railroad in Rock Island alleging his arm was crushed by buffer irons while coupling at Earlham on September 16, 1901. He claims a defective coupling caused the accident.
Charles Donahue, Dubuque's oldest traveling man, died Monday morning at Finley Hospital aged 74. Death was due to heart trouble. His nurse left him briefly and returned to find him dead.

John C Wolz, 73, died Sunday at his home in Iowa City. He had lived in the area 47 years and spent most of that time on the home farm eight miles south of the city.

W H Clark of Manchester Iowa left for South Dakota in 1887 to settle on government land. A Railroad wreck near Sioux Falls left him brain injured and unidentifiable for two years. After release he located his family in Arkansas and Joplin Missouri, then a daughter in Oaks South Carolina, leading to a full family reunion in Joplin.
The Burlington Gazette reports barney Waldin has moved to Burlington to oversee construction of the Muscatine North and South railroad from Elrick Junction to Burlington. The twenty five mile stretch to Elrick is expected to be finished in about three months with the route largely set. The Burlington to Muscatine leg will total fifty seven miles.
Milwaukee Feb 11 reports several Grant county editors were given sums from 20 to 400 by the stalwart organization opposing Governor La Follette. Subscriptions were promised but never sent. The editors fear the money aimed to influence their views, while stalwarts claim all actions were legitimate.
