Operation Identification helps deter burglars in homes
The Muscatine Journal reports on Operation Identification, a program begun in Monterey Park, California in 1963 and adopted by many cities and Connecticut. It urges homeowners to engrave valuables with a number, display a sticker, and file a list with police or a bank. The plan aims to aid police in tracing ownership, potentially lowering insurance premiums, and deterring thieves, with real-world gains shown by reduced break-ins in protected neighborhoods.
