A World telegram from London says Moscow’s street fighting signals Russia's worst anarchic blast and a looming financial and industrial crisis. Dispatches describe brutal use of machine guns, thousands killed or wounded, and rising fear across Odessa and Kiev as strikes spread.
An east bound Denver and Rio Grande passenger train from Silverton was wrecked three miles from Durango Colorado on Christmas Day. A chair car rolled down the embankment dragging others. at least 12 passengers are seriously injured but none killed. The cause is blamed on a defective rail and the cold intensified suffering.
A horse drawing a buggy dashed into the Pennsylvania special near Delphos at five this morning on the Pennsylvania Line. Henry Unhorst and daughter Rose were instantly killed. Mrs Barney Wahomhoff, a daughter of Unhorst, was severely injured.
A Christmas Eve blaze near 58th Street and Eleventh Avenue destroyed a six story factory and threatened surrounding tenements and gas tanks. Firemen saved hundreds as a man on a window sill fought to jump, then was pulled back to safety amid civic crowds and hospital alarms at Roosevelt Hospital. One firefighter was injured.
A Christmas celebration near Ely Minnesota ended in a stabbing. John Kandell Anton Hern and Joe Credenice were severely cut by Yan Evich. Credenice is expected to die. Evich was arrested after a fierce struggle with police.
Robert Fitzsimmons will sue Maj. Charles Joseph Sibley Miller of Franklin Pennsylvania for 100000 damages over alleged alienation of his wife’s affections. Leon Friedman leaves for New York to begin legal action. Friedman expects a confrontation if Miller attempts to shoot.
