Balloting in the general election ended yesterday with a remarkable outcome as the government secured a large majority of 126 seats and appeared poised to form a strong administration.
J L Blake general manager of the Fort Dodge Des Moines and Southern interurban railway will resign in April to operate a 700 acre farm across Boone Green and Dallas counties He will raise blooded stock and continue his reputation as one of Boone s biggest boosters for transforming the line into a paying venture
Ottumwa Iowa reports fifty new scarlet fever cases to the city board of health and two deaths this morning. Jeanette Woods four year old daughter of J A Woods foreman of the Ottumwa Daily Review is among the victims and three other family members are seriously ill.
John Farmery aged about 86 was found dead in his bed at noon after passing away during the night. He lived alone for many years and had no relatives in Clinton. He was a native of England.
In Philadelphia on December 20 the United States circuit court permanently enjoined the Temple Iron Company from being controlled by railroad owns stock. The decree bars Reading and other anthracite railroads from exercising control but refuses without prejudice dismissal of the remaining government claims. J C McReynolds filed notice of appeal.
Ottumwa Iowa December 20 Bud Elliott whose back was broken by a fall at the Rutledge mine November 30 was operated on in the Ottumwa hospital last night and physicians hold out hopes for his recovery. Two successful operations for broken backs have occurred in the Ottumwa hospital.
Des Moines Iowa December 20 The Albia and Centerville railroad built by the late General Drake in 1883 is in the hands of a receiver by order of Judge McPherson of the federal court William G Bird is named as receiver upon the application of the Iowa Central with which road the Albia and Centerville has been at war for several weeks There is also a restraining order to prevent the Albia and Centerville from selling any of its 24 miles of track or rolling stock to the Southern Iowa traction company and the Iowa Central claims the road owes 53000 for material and other property.
Chicago December 20 Judge W H Seaman of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals issues a writ of supersedas liberating Mrs Aileen Christopher the government's chief witness in the brick trust investigation. She had been serving a 30 day contempt sentence after refusing to give the grand jury certain papers.
Middle Western Broom Manufacturers in session at Des Moines declare they do not propose to raise broom prices. Delegates from Iowa South Dakota Missouri Nebraska and other middle western states are present in the meeting.
Senate confirms Knapp of the Interstate Commerce Commission as an additional circuit judge of the second judicial circuit. Three charred bodies found in the rubble of J. L. Sanders’s house near Hester lead to the arrest of Nathan Montague, a Black man, on charges of criminal assault murder and arson. A blood pool and hair strands were found in the yard, with a bloodstained pocketknife linked to Montague. Neighbors recall him aiding in hog killings with Miss Sanders present. Sheriff Wilson captured Montague after a resisted arrest.
President William J. Pilkington says 125 workers are collecting withdrawals as volunteers seek to nullify the saloon consent petition filed Saturday. The effort could leave Des Moines dry for five years if the petition fails. A new consent petition is started outside the city to keep saloons operating at Valley Junction and mining camps.
The US revenue cutter Davy anchored near the steamer Hornet as customs inspectors watched for activity tied to preparations for sailing. Hornet captain says she will sail today for Central American ports to aid a revolutionary effort against Honduras led by Manuel Bonilla and General Lee Christmas, per Honduran consul reports.

Gen Navarro fails to capture Mal Paso after two days of fighting amid heavy losses on both sides. A government troop train was fired upon near San Andres with many killed and wounded, and plans to move wounded 60 men were reported. Navarro claimed insurgent reinforcement to 2,000 men but did not win a decisive victory.
The committee on claims chaired by Representative Prince of Illinois reported favorably with two amendments on the bill to restore funds donated for Ellen M. Stone the American missionary held by Bulgarian brigands. The fund had 23 000 contributors.

Edwin Gundemeir, 19, a Storm Lake High School junior and football player, drowned after venturing onto thin ice while skating from his home south of the city to town. His body was recovered after about forty five minutes from nine feet of water.
Sioux City reports the jury in the George Adams murder case has retired at 5 p m and remained out at noon. Rumors say an 11 to 1 vote favors acquittal with Adams claiming self defense after the April onstage slaying of Miles Phillips.
Despondent over his daughter's death, 45 year old coal miner James Coyle killed himself at his East Des Moines residence by drinking carbolic acid late last night. He had been troubled by grief for three months following the tragedy.
Davenport couple Mr. and Mrs. Leonhard Biller mark their sixtieth wedding anniversary today. They have resided in Davenport since 1762 and Mr. Biller once worked in the local dry goods trade.
